Joey Verbeke

Joey Verbeke is both a future experience engineer and new media artist with a background in music and computer science. He works with bits, atoms, waves, electricity and their interactive applications at the intersection of physical and digital mediums. He is interested in creating experiences that challenge the viewer to explore surreality and the abnormal. Some of his previous creations include Slow Magic’s new audio-driven LED mask, a responsive and interactive wall of light, a mirror that allows human interaction through time, and vertical pillars that emit horizontally-reflected light. His work extends beyond its own subjective limits and gives the viewer a chance to question the reconstructed reality. Exploring alternative approaches of applying technology, he searches for new methods to iterate on these themes of ethereality and unfamiliarity. Verbeke’s work has been exhibited at galleries and institutions including Denver International Airport, TED, Sundance Film Festival, SIGGRAPH, and Future of Storytelling.
