Poetic Programming with in:verse
Saturday, December 19th @ 2:00pm PST (timezone converter)

Part of the 10th annual CODAME ART+TECH Festival

Create visuals and animations by writing poetry! in:verse is an esoteric programming language where code is written as poetry to generate shaders, in a live-coding web-based interface. This workshop will introduce participants to the fascinating world of esoteric programming languages, stack-based programming, shaders, and writing programs with in:verse. Participants can mold the language to their liking by choosing their own lexicon to program with, publish their work to an online gallery, and remix and build off each other's work.

in:verse follows a rich tradition of esoteric programming languages, challenging the core assumptions and values in mainstream programming languages. Rather than emphasize utility and efficiency, in:verse values playfulness, exploration and random chance. It allows one to engage with it on multiple levels -- focussing on either words and constraint-based writing; or on visuals and mathematical constraints; or bouncing between both.

  • Basic familiarity with programming (in any language). Familiarity with shaders would be helpful but is not required.
