Cesar & Lois

Cesar & Lois

Cesar & Lois posit new systems that integrate natural and technological networks. Cesar & Lois consists of Lucy HG Solomon (CA/US) and Cesar Baio (BR). In the collective’s body of work, Cesar & Lois infuses art with nature’s data. The duo creates fungal systems that tweet and posit nature-based economies. For [*Degenerative Cultures*](/orgs/codame/projects/degenerative-cultures), Cesar & Lois invite viewers to rethink human relationships to nature-based systems, challenging human-built systems’ inherent logic models. Cesar & Lois nurture bhiobrid (or bio-hybrid) cultures, ranging from the fungal colonization of books to microbiological mappings, with the objective of learning from the overlapping patterns of human-based knowledge and the wisdom of nature’s growth algorithms. Works by Cesar & Lois have exhibited at the L.A.S.T. Festival, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford, AI Delivered: Redemption in China, Mercosul Biennial, Instituto Caldeira, and Beall Center for Art + Technology, among others. Cesar & Lois acknowledge the contributions of biologist Scott Morgans, undergraduate researcher Kodie Gerritsen and Professor Sandra Doller's Literature & Writing Studies 325 Creative Writing Workshop at California State University San Marcos in the development of *Degenerative Cultures* for [CODAME](/orgs/codame).
