MOOR gianluca balocco

M.O.O.R. — Gianluca Balocco is an Italian artist, architect and techno-humanist whose research investigates perception as an unstable field shaped by image, technology, memory and artificial intelligence. M.O.O.R. stands for Mind Opens Our Reality, a statement that defines his practice as a continuous inquiry into how reality is constructed, altered and reinterpreted through perception. Trained as an architect and in multimedia at Politecnico di Milano, Balocco has developed a transdisciplinary language combining expanded photography, moving image, light, sound, AI, eye-tracking and immersive environments. His works do not treat technology as a neutral tool, but as an active agent within the perceptual experience, generating conditions of ambiguity, transformation and indeterminacy. His research includes long-term bodies of work such as Transland, Abandon Sight, Osmotic Crossing, Impermanence, The Fourth Dimension and Neural Temple, an evolving sensory environment in which image, sound, light and spatial perception interact as a living system. Balocco participated in the XLV Venice Biennale in 1993 and returned to Venice as a guest artist during the 2024 Biennale. Recent projects and exhibitions include Impermanence at Acquario Romano in Rome, Cross-Boundary Tribute: AI Dreaming in the Landscape in Shenzhen, Transland Sensory Experience in Harbin, OSMOTIC LIGHT during ART CITY Bologna 2026, and Il Battito Segreto dell’Acqua in Murano. In 2026 his work also develops through Abandon Sight in Milan and new international projects between Europe and China. At the core of his practice is a recurring question: what happens when perception is no longer entirely human, but emerges from the interaction between biological sensitivity, machine intelligence and the unstable space between them?
