Ryota Matsumoto
Ryota Matsumoto (松本良多) is a featured artist of the [CODAME](/orgs/codame) [ART+TECH Festival](/orgs/codame/events/codame-art-tech-festival-2013) (2024) #Essence on oct 3rd in Milan As an artist, designer, and architect, Ryota Matsumoto is internationally recognized as one of the progenitors of the postdigital art and architecture movement. His artistic approach transcends traditional boundaries of visual art, blending digital technologies, mixed media, and interdisciplinary design. Born in Tokyo, he was raised in Hong Kong and Japan. In 2007, he received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania after studying at the Architectural Association in London and Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Glasgow School of Art, in the early 1990s. He has previously collaborated with Kisho Kurokawa, a cofounder of the Metabolist Movement, Arata Isozaki, Peter Christopherson, and MIT Media Lab. He has served as the adjunct professor of the MFA program at the Transart Institute for Creative Research, University of Plymouth. He works as a research associate and senior consultant for the New Centre of Research & Practice and the City of Dallas Office of Art and Culture. He has been active as a guest critic on design reviews at Cornell University, Cooper Union, Columbia GSAPP, Rhode Island School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
